The goal was to jog 30 minutes, regardless of pace... I jogged 34 minutes...and covered 3.25 miles!  Go me!  Lots of stretching, hot shower...and then icing?  And hopefully I'll do 2 miles tomorrow and 3 miles Sunday... the old long-term goal was exercising consistently for a year (accomplished October 15, 2011)...I'm not sure what my new goal is... 5 miles at once? doing some kind of fun race?  hmmmm

12/11 Sunday - Jogged 3 miles, I was jogging for 30 minutes straight!!! Yay!  stretched, hot showered, and iced my shins...

12/4 - Sunday - my legs hurt and i was completely exhausted... and so I did yoga instead for about a half an hour... not sure if it was exercise, but I hot tubbed before and iced my legs afterward in the hopes of decreasing pain before the coming week!

Celebrated my one year of continuing fitness on Oct 15!

11/6 Jogged 2 miles a little faster than usual... 21 minutes instead of 24... that's good!  felt lots better in my breathing....no pain in my lungs!

10/14/11 Friday Jogged 2.2 miles to earn my Indian Food.  Jogged from Coolidge Corner to Packard's Corner and back.  Overcame terrible weather and got soaked to the bone, waded through street's disgustingly deep with gross water.  It was awful.  But I did it.  Go me.

Got up early, jogged from the walgreens to thorndike and back...apparently it was only 1.8 miles, but whatever...battle won.

8/26 - Friday - 15 minute warm up walking at 4.0 mph, 30 minutes at 5.0 mph, 15 minutes at 4.0 mph.  My heart rate was good for a solid 30 minutes.  I walked and definitely cooled down well, but I didn't really stretch.  I haven't been eating consistently enough, so I felt really weird later.

8/21 - 48 minutes on the elliptical... 30 minutes in a heart rate program to keep me at 75% of my max heart rate?  That does make you work hard, doesn't it!?  18 minutes just warming up and cooling down... Really getting sporadic here... it is tough to work and exercise... I'm going to have start exercising after work... which is going to stink...but probably be worth the sexiness/healthiness...

8/12 - over an hour of ellipticalling, 30 minutes of fat-burn, and over 30 minutes of Target heart rate program...which somehow got me on 10 difficulty. That got pretty challenging, and my heart rate was definitely up there... Despite my lack of exercising the past couple of weeks, my weight hasn't gone up at all.  Phew!

6/5 Sunday - Walked to the bus stop, cleaning up trash, then got onto the elliptical for 35 minutes at 9 to burn 350 calories.  I'm enjoying being back on track exercise-wise.  I think if I was on vacation all the time, it is possible I could exercise a lot more.  Alas.

(I'm getting less strict about this, but my goal is to be just getting active and more fit and able to just go jogging without planning too much, so... this is a good start!) and I probably walked .5 mile too...

new posts... I had a lapse in keeping track & exercising!

5/13 Friday - Went on a long walk/run today... note to self.  Wear sunscreen, even after 2:30 pm... got a touch of color, but not too bad, phew!  traveled 5.11 miles! Legit jogged 2 miles, though there was some extra jogging, quick walking, sprinting, resting, water grabbing...felt good, lungs really feel like the weakness, still fighting off this cough that seems related to allergies, but it is difficult to make it die when i keep coughing! grrr...  but it was a beautiful day, and Mully was such a good boy to run with!

5/11 Wednesday - I have no explanation for this lapse in journaling.  I think I ran a mile somewhere in there, but clearly, I didn't record it.  So, today I was on the elliptical machine for 50 minutes, with 30 minutes at 8 difficulty.  I traveled 4 miles, and burned 500 calories according to the machine.  Yay.  I am at my lowest weight since 2010, so I must be eating better.  Hoping to keep that up and keep up the exercising.

4/24 Sunday - Okay... jogging may have gotten a little harder!  walked 2 miles, and then ran 2 miles in 23 minutes... which is 5.2 mph!  So maybe running faster made it a little harder?  Anyway, feeling good... traveled 4 miles!  Hopefully burned off some Easter chocolate!

Spring is here! Fun to run in the sun!

4/3 4.5 miles traveled during dog walk with Mully... probably only jogged 1.8-2.0 miles, but all of it faster than I would generally go... I was really pushing my lungs! Now icing my rt. shin, which is ouchy... on the way over there I felt a little pain in my right hip... hoping to use stretching/icing to avoid injuring!

3/27 Sunday - Jogged with Mulligan Osher (Spring Spaniel) today... jogged 2-2.3 miles... traveled 4.85 miles! woweee! and it was so nice to have a doggy partner in crime, even when he sometimes wanted to go the wrong direction!

3/26 Saturday - I know I was at the gym for roughly 90 minutes... I was actually ellipticalling about 70 of those... go me! 70 minutes? that sounds insane!

3/25 Friday - Really thinking this weekend should involve three exercising days.  No reason it can't.  Jogged outside today, but miscalculated my distance, so I only ran 1.88 miles, in 23-24 minutes... which is under 13 minutes per mile... I felt pretty winded by the end...the way back is a bit of an incline I suspect.  But my legs felt good.  And I caught my breath quicker than usual.  Go team Laura!

3/20 Sunday - Laundry day...at the gym from 2:10 pm to 4:00pm...but I only kept track of roughly 70 minutes of ellipticalling... so it is a mystery what I was doing the other 40 minutes... Some of it may have been stretching/warming up... doing the laundry part, I don't know...just know I was tired after all of it.

SPRING is here!

3/18 Friday - Oh my! What a busy week it has been! So my exercise schedule took a hit... but I'm back at it and I ran outside for 2 miles and did some warming up and cooling down too... The second mile took roughly 13 minutes, but I had to stop covering ground at one particularly long stop light... so my pacing is pretty much the same as I do inside on the treadmill!  Note to self, use vaseline before run to avoid chafing!

3/10 Thursday - Decided to mix it up and save time by exercising on the way to my appointment.  I warmed up walking for 10 minutes-ish and then started jogging and jogged roughly 1.4 miles in about 20 minutes?  Then I was at my appointment and still felt pretty good, so I thought I could just jog back... I jogged about 1.1 miles (according to MapMyRUN) and walked the rest of the way home... so in total I jogged about 2.5 miles.  But I really should start using my inhaler again...boo cold air on lungs...

3/6 Sunday - I'm pretty sure I exercised this day... yes... I did, it was after making a video with Jill May... I jogged for 2 miles after warming up for 15 minutes... I forget the pace, but I totally did it. Phew!  6 miles in one week! With minimal pain! Yay!.

2/27 - Sunday - The great thing about exercising so regularly is that I am forgetting to journal it!  That is an accomplishment and a sign that I am making a routine here!  I think I went to the gym and saw Amanda R and talked about stuff on the ellipticals... it was pre-oscars and I was rushing home... but I don't remember exactly how long I did anything.

2/19 Saturday - went to the gym... 15 minute warm up, 2 miles at 5mph...15 minutes cool down...good for me... stretched everything out, hoping not to be hurting too badly tomorrow... when I want to go to the gym again and go running again!  I read an article about how long it takes to develop a habit... 66 days they said.  So, I'm definitely through that period...though I haven't done 66 days of workouts...so, we'll see...

February workouts!

2/13 Sunday - Thanks to a frustrating conversation with my mom and the suggestion of my roommate Leia, I went to the gym today! 60 minutes of ellipticalling and I must have done a little something else since laundry takes 27 minutes +50 minutes, and I was doing stuff until my laundry had 10 minutes left... good for me!

2/12 Saturday- I'm a little confused about when I last exercised... I think it was last Saturday or Sunday... and then this was a pretty rough week and I didn't get to it again until today.  But... today I went to the gym, warmed up for 15 minutes, ran 2 miles...right shin keeps feeling sharpish pain on food landing, walked 10 minutes, stretched...got a bad weight this morning...might reflect the rough week.

more workouts!

1/30 Sunday... went to the gym, walked for .75 miles for warm up, jogged 1 mile at 4.5 mph, then changed laundry loads and went back to the treadmill...ran 2 more miles at 4.5 mph, then cooled down for 15 minutes at 3.0... both warm up and cool down included 5-10 minutes of incline at 3.0-4.0, felt good, middle mile felt best... rt. shin hurt a bit, but not too bad on a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 2-3...

1/28 Friday... went to the gym, walked for .75 miles for warm up, jogged 2 miles in 26 m 30 s, and then walked close to 1.25 miles as a cool down, with part of both of the walks being uphill at 3.0-3.5 incline.  Felt good... though a 2 mile run doesn't get to that "easier place"... so it is like 25 minutes left, 24 minutes left, ugh... next run Sunday...

1/25 Tuesday... hard day at work, didn't eat soon enough before running and then drank 16 oz of water right before I started jogging... so I got a bad cramp and had to just jog through it... and my leg hurt a bit (rt shin), but I just kept saying, mental game, keep going)
Started with 15 minute, uphill walking warm up. 2 miles at 4.5 mph on level ground...fighting for it...25 minutes of walking for cool down... with some stretching in between before full cool down.  Then waited for the bus for 28 minutes. boo.  Forgot to ice, icing now...took an ibuprofen...

1/23 Sunday - Had an inspiring talk with my brother... need to step up my running a bit here... goal: not being injured...so this week I'm going to try to do that...Tues(2m), Thurs(2m), Sat(2m or more), Sun (elliptical or running)...

1/23 Sunday - 90 minutes of elliptical machining... 33 minutes of "fat burn"... then 9 minutes of ellipticalling at manual, stopped to fill water bottle, then back on the machine for 55 minutes? I'm not sure... It was a lot... I saw at least an entire episode of tabatha's salon makeover and half of a housewives of atlanta/interview on cnn...cuz housewives sucks. and then 15 minutes of stretching...

1/17 - Monday - 65 minutes of elliptical machining... trying to drown a little sorrow in exercise...then I found ice cream and a cupcake...oh dear.  My right shin hurt this morning, but hurts less now...

1/15 - Saturday - 60 minutes of jogging at 4.5 mph... plus 10-15 minute warm up and 10 minute cool down... I finally got back that mysterious warming feeling in my legs that might be related to a "runner's high" of sorts.  It was funny to feel it, not pain, not really numb, just like, strong and energized...hmmm...  had to really fight for the last 10 minutes of the run.  Just kept telling myself it was mental and kept going.

Continuing my late in the year resolution!

1/9 Sunday - too long in between entries here, but I was in transit for 4 days and working for 2... so hopefully I can get back on track with a more regular schedule.  I went into the gym today after declining dinner with a friend knowing I should go exercise. So I went in, walked for 10 minutes (.5 mile), jogged for 60 minutes averaging a 4.1 mph pace, with a half a mile of it uphill... cooled down, now taking an ibuprofen, icing my shin in the hopes of avoiding worsening shin pain

1/2 Sunday - elliptical, 5 minute warm up, 30 minutes at 10, 5 minutes cooling down at 1, did situps, going to be on a plane/traveling for 15 hours... so, trying to tire my body out a bit... it's not running, but at least I'm exercising... I'm going to try running before I leave for Minnesota on Thursday!
